It was developed in\u202fcooperation with European HTA institutions and it offers guidance on how to answer challenging medical questions in a scientific way using evidence-based medicine. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What current technology can we compare the new technology with? In other words, how to choose a suitable comparator?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to choose relevant studies and information from the vast amount of published research?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to choose appropriate indicators of clinical effectiveness and\u202fsafety?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to assess whether the results of clinical studies are relevant, thorough, and\u202freliable?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to assess whether the new technology offers value for money?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to take the ethical, legal, social, and organizational aspects into account in the assessment?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How to pay attention to distorted perception, interpretation, and information on the side of scientists, experts, patients, and ourselves in the assessment?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"padding-top-20 translation-block\">Our main outputs \u2013 comprehensive assessments of health technologies \u2013 are structured according to the so-called methodological framework of the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunethta.eu\/hta-core-model\/\" target=\"_self\" role=\"link\">HTA Core Model<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model defines the basic areas that a comprehensive technology assessment should include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Health problem and\u202fcurrent use of technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Description and\u202ftechnical characteristics of the technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clinical effectiveness and safety of the technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic assessment of the technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ethical, organizational, social\/patient and\u202flegal aspects of the technology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the model offers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A set of questions an HTA institution can address in its assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guidance in answering these questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A common reporting structure to present the entire assessment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"padding-top-20\"><em>Example of the method used in the assessment of a new medicine:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>NIHO collects all available studies, data, technical specifications, and scientific articles on\u202fthe medicine. Medical and\u202fother scientific databases are full of scientific work on various topics. However, they also contain thousands of poor quality and\u202fmethodologically flawed studies. The task of NIHO is to sieve through this huge amount of data and\u202ffind the essential,\u202frelevant, and high-quality data\u202f for the Slovak system. For a true result, it is important to minimize the amount of misrepresentation of information as much as possible.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>From the collected data, NIHO determines whether and\u202fhow the medicine works; who should use it and how; how effective and\u202fsafe it is, and whether it is more effective than the standard treatment.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>NIHO then asks professionals who are to administer the medicine about how this affects their way of working. NIHO also asks patients if the medicine is relevant for them at all.
